Comfort Zones and Chicken Eggs
Necessity is the mother of invention. Or in my case, desperation? 🤔 Can those two be considered synonyms? Either way, I have to thank desperation—what a strange concept.
You see, it was the shove I needed to step out of my comfortable world and into something I now absolutely love doing. And let’s be honest, I can be stubborn. (I'll pause while those who know me perform their dramatic gasp of surprise. 😱)
Once my mom started calling me Jonah—yes, as in the biblical runaway prophet 🐳—because I was fighting tooth and nail against a major life change. God was nudging me toward a career move that required relocating to a city I really did not like. I had gone to college there, and let’s just say the city and I had some unresolved differences. (Go Kolas!)
But God had a plan. Things where I was at started getting increasingly uncomfortable—work shifts, home dynamics, subtle nudges that turned into full-blown shoves. FINE. I made the move. Dragging my feet and grumbling the whole way. 🏃♀️➡️🏙️
The result? Blessings. So many blessings. I advanced in my career. Learned new skills. Made incredible friends. Got married. Got divorced. (Hey, not every chapter can be rainbows and unicorns. 🌈🦄)
The lesson? Comfort zones are lovely places, but nothing ever grows there. 🌱
And that brings us to my latest comfort-zone crisis.
I was financially stable—not rich, not poor. Living paycheck to paycheck but making it work. Then the price of eggs skyrocketed to a zillion dollars. 🥚💰 You know it’s bad when you start seriously considering having your backyard chickens. 🐔 And it wasn’t just eggs—it was everything. That easy, predictable paycheck-to-paycheck life? Suddenly uncomfortable.
Not being able to help others the way I used to? Really uncomfortable.
Something had to change. And so began my journey—let’s call it "My Search for a Dollar." 💸 (Which, by the way, will be my next blog post, so stay tuned!)
In the meantime, have you ever needed discomfort to push you toward something better? What’s the moment that made you take the leap? I’d love to hear your story. 💬✨
